NUWCEM 2022 Sogin, together with Nucleco, participated in NUWCEM 2022 (4th International Symposium on Cement-Based Materials for Nuclear Wastes), which took place in Avignon, France, from 4 to 6 May 2022. The event, organised by the SFEN (Société française d'énergie nucléaire) and the CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives), saw the participation of numerous representatives of the main scientific bodies and organisations, with the aim of promoting the exchange of know-how and experiences on ongoing research and development activities related to the cementation of low and intermediate level waste.

The Symposium consisted of five technical sessions in which 120 papers were presented by experts from 20 different countries, divided into 60 speeches and 60 poster presentations.

The conference offered an important opportunity to promote the skills and capabilities of both Sogin and Nucleco. In particular, the Company gave a speech called “Multiphase (oil/water/sludge) radioactive liquid waste solidification with polymer and cement - Sogin Experience” and showed the poster “Formulation Development and Process Qualification Activities for Direct Cementation of Small Volume of Alpha Contaminated Aqueous Waste”, both presented by Federica Pancotti, Head of Technological Development and Innovation at Sogin, as part of Technical Session 1 “Design of cement waste packages”.

Also present, for Sogin, were Graziano Pugliese, Head of Health Chemistry and Physics, co-author of the work for the Bosco Marengo site, Tiziano Vignaroli and Roberto Iacovacci, experts in radioactive waste management, and, for Nucleco, Davide Cori, Head of the Process Qualification Laboratory and co-author of the poster presented.
